Geithner admits we’re in for severe hard times for a long time

Geithner says hard times to continue for many

APAP – 11 hrs ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner (GYT’-nur) says many Americans will face hard times for a long time to come.

He says President Barack Obama rescued the United States from a second Great Depression and will keep working to strengthen the economy. But Geithner says will be some time before many people feel like the country is recovering.

Geithner tells NBC’s “Meet the Press” that it’s a very tough economy. He says that for a lot of people “it’s going to feel very hard, harder than anything they’ve experienced in their lifetime now, for a long time to come.”

Ron Paul Predicts America’s Bankruptcy

2012 Hopeful Paul Predicts America’s Bankruptcy

by Erin Vogel | July 10, 2011

GOP presidential contender Ron Paul blames big government for holding up debt talks and is forecasting an all-out bankruptcy for America.

“I am very hopeful and positive in the long run, but I think we are going to go through a bankruptcy first,” the Texas congressman told Fox News in a Sunday Interview.

Paul admits a compromise will eventually come, but at the expense of younger generations.

“Everything we have done so far has just spent more and run up the deficit,” Paul said.

In a statement released Friday, the hopeful said he’s doubtful that a deal on the debt will resolve the country’s problems. “In Washington, if you hear about a so-called deal, you can be sure the taxes will come, but the cuts never will,” he wrote.

Paul also took time during his Sunday interview to reflect on what he sees as the bright prospects of his campaign.

Paul highlighted a win Saturday in a straw poll conducted by the Coalition of New Hampshire Taxpayers, a conservative grassroots organization dedicated to smaller government and lower taxes.

All smiles, Paul promised to keep working hard, “especially in the early states.”

THE UNAMERICAN UNCONSTITUTIONAL PROPERTY TAX

This is one of my very first posts on this blog and I think it’s worthy of reposting every now and then.

————————————————————————————————————

14 Apr 2011

The land belongs to you, the one who bought it, not the State. A property tax is the State declaring that it owns the land, and worse than that, it is the state attempting to usurp your God given right to do what you want with your own land, by saying it owns the land. If you doubt this, just try not paying your property tax and you?ll see who owns the land. Imagine this. Imagine an America in which there are no homeowners, just serfs. No one owns a home or land. They simply pay a feudal lord a special fee in order to remain on the land or in their home. They must maintain the land and home they live in or the feudal lord can fine, imprison or evict them.

They must obtain permission from the feudal lord to build onto their home or make significant improvements. Once they have built or improved their home, they must pay the feudal lord an increased special fee in order to remain in their home. The feudal lord can also send his agents to inspect the home whenever he wishes and the “homeowner”, oh pardon me, the serf must grant them entry. This arrangement is known as serfdom. They say it ended in the 1700?s. But it has not ended. In America, we have simply replaced the feudal lord with the State. Serfdom is alive and well in America and it is maintained via the property tax.

The property tax dispossesses and disinherits the family. Land, in a truly free nation would be an inheritance to future generations of family members. A tax on the land is an attempt by the state to defund, dispossess, and disinherit the family. Families that cannot afford the tax will lose their land. Supreme Court Chief justice John Marshall, penned these words in the 1819 McCulloch v. Maryland case, “The power to tax is the power to destroy.” A property tax is an attempt by the State to destroy the family. God intended for families to own land. He intended the land to be an inheritance to future members of the family. Any laws which the State enacts to see this end accomplished are just laws, any laws which militate against this God-given design are unjust laws. The land owned by families must not be taxed by the State, lest they rob future family members of their God-given inheritance.

The property tax is not only an assault upon the family, but it is also an assault upon man?s freedom. Property is basic to man?s freedom. A tyrannical state always limits a man?s use of his property. A tyrannical state always limits a man?s use of his property, taxes it, or confiscates it as a means of enslaving a man without necessarily touching his person. A property tax is a sign of an occupied country! A direct property tax is a sign that a nation is under oppression and tyranny. That is what Americans are under today. In contrast, a familiar cry of the American Revolution was “Liberty and Property.”

Property tax is also wrong because of what it is used for. Property tax is collected by city governments, municipalities or various local governments. A small portion is given to the state government. A small portion is given to the county government. The vast majority is kept by the local government. It?s hard to determine what the state uses its portion for. The county government usually uses a large portion of the small portion it receives for jails and prisons. The local government uses the vast majority of what it keeps for schools. This is another corrupt institution. The State must never be granted jurisdiction to educate children. This duty should belong to the family primarily. What does the State educate children in? Humanism, statism, and it does not encourage children to think independently, rather brainwashes children not to think for themselves, and accept lies as truth, as long as it’s from a state approved authority figure.

Property tax is wrong because it removes incentive to improve one?s property. If you improve your property, it means you will pay a higher property tax because you have increased the value of your property. Therefore, property tax acts as a disincentive to improve the condition of one?s property. Property tax is an attempt to destroy the family, and an assault on man?s freedom. We must be opposed to it therefore. One of the reasons Americans are under the oppressive property tax is because we are a nation of citizens in rebellion to common sense, and so many of us are dependant on a monthly check from Big Brother to survive.

The attitude of the State regarding the taxation of its citizens can be summed up in the words of former U.S. President Lyndon Johnson. In a January 15, 1964 White House speech, LBJ, who gave us the Great Socialist Society, said, “We are going to try to take all the money that we think is unnecessarily being spent and take it from the ?haves? and give it to the ?have-nots? that need it so much.” Apparently the have nots include a State that is getting rich by the sweat of our brows, and imposing more tyranical laws upon us every day.

What should we do in light of this tyranny? Am I saying you should not pay your property tax? That’s up to you to decide. If you can find a way around it, FIND IT! Be as wise as a serpant, and harmless as a dove, so to speak. It may be a cause for which God will raise you up. But what we must do is inform this nation of the injustices that are being heaped upon us daily, and the property tax is one of them. The BIG picture is this: we are cows, the IRS is the company who milks the cows, the United States Government is the veterinarian who takes care of the herd, and the International Bankers are the owners of the farm. The peoples of this nation should be aflame with righteousness calling each other to stand against this tyranny. All people must know it is wrong, and then they will see this scourge called property tax abolished from our land.

Spending bill gave $10 million of taxpayers’ funding to effortJust a day after U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Fla., called for Attorney General Eric Holder’s removal, alleging a White House connection to the “Project Gunrunner” that allowed weapons to be delivered to Mexican drug lords, confirmation has come that the program originated at the highest levels of the Obama administration. The link is the $10 million in taxpayer dollars designated to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for Project Gunrunner in Obama’s 2009 American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, otherwise known as the Stimulus Bill.Section 5, Division A, Title II, under the heading of “Office of Justice Programs,” says the money is set aside for border regions.

For an additional amount for ‘State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance,’ $40,000,000, to remain available until September 30, 2014, for competitive grants to provide assistance and equipment to local law enforcement along the Southern border and in High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas to combat criminal narcotics activity stemming from the Southern border, of which $10,000,000 shall be transferred to ‘Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Salaries and Expenses’ for the ATF Project Gunrunner.

Gun Owners of America President Larry Pratt believes stimulus money was given to a drug dealer to buy guns.

“Ten million dollars, and one of the ways they were spending it was a paid FBI informant who was a drug dealer they had flipped. So he was buying lots of guns with that stimulus money,” Pratt said.

Pratt said that the stimulus bill enhanced one industry in particular.

Pratt said that the gun buyer involved was the subject of what he calls an “aspect of tragic comedy.”

“This FBI informant was being surveilled by the ATF that was running the Fast and Furious Operation and they had no idea that he was an FBI informant,” Pratt observed.

“But obviously they didn’t need to be informed because they didn’t care. They just wanted the guns to walk,” he stated.

Today, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said he would support the call for a special prosecutor if members of Congress investigating the issue believe that is the best solution.

Appearing on the Steve Gill show, he said, “The point of our inquiry is to find out who really signed off on this operation. Who is the one who said ‘yeah, this is a good thing to do.’ It might have sounded like a good idea, but it ended up with the murder of Mr. Terry, a border control agent, and two of the guns were found at the scene of that murder.”

A report in the San Francisco Chronicle says that FBI informants were connected to the ATF’s Project Gunrunner.

Firearms law analyst and writer David Codrea believes that even if there is evidence to prove that known criminals used taxpayer money to get guns to take to Mexico, nothing is likely to be done with the evidence.

“If left to Holder’s Justice Department, nothing, because it shows this had to be top-level DoJ-authorized,” Codrea explained.

Reports say other federal agencies have also been drawn into the operation. The DEA, FBI and upper-level DOJ officers, including the U. S. Attorney’s office in Phoenix, have been named.

Attorney General Holder’s office has not responded to WND’s request for comment.

Codrea believes that it’s possible that ATF Acting Director Kenneth Melson’s office was bypassed in decision-making about the operation.

“It’s absolutely possible and may even be probable that they bypassed Melson in the operation. However, that does not excuse him from having no control of his agency,” Codrea said.

“But this kind of thing cannot take place in your agency unless you have unless you have people … who are absolutely flat-out lying to you,” he said.

Pratt also believes that some of the guns were purchased by the Mexican cartels directly from federal agents.

“One of the founders of the cartel, one of their top 14 directors if you will, a guy whose nickname is El Mamito, has said that he was buying guns directly from the federal government,” Pratt explained.

Jesus Rejon Aguilar, nicknamed El Mamito or “Pretty Boy,” he third highest ranking member of the drug gang Los Zetas, was captured Monday by Mexican authorities.

Pratt said he believes for the guns to go across at a designated location, there had to be coordination between several federal law enforcement agencies.

“There had to be some kind of a deal with the Border Patrol. … We know that in that ’09 meeting that set-up Fast and Furious, those four or five agencies were all part of the deal,” Pratt said.

Pratt said that it’s not likely that many of the representatives who voted for the stimulus package were aware that money was allocated for Project Gunrunner.

“Anyone who voted for the stimulus bill has another reason to regret their vote. Obviously they didn’t read the bill,” Pratt asserted. “They don’t read most of the bills up there at all.”

Pratt illustrated his comment by citing former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s comment about the health care bill: “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of controversy.”

Several border state representatives contacted about the stimulus package and its allocation of $10 million for Project Gunrunner have not returned WND’s calls.

Pratt also said that he’s supportive of West’s call for the removal of Holder and for a special prosecutor to be appointed.

“This is something that is very appropriate. While Rep. Issa was very correct in his choice of words, he said he didn’t think Attorney General Eric Holder told the truth,” Pratt said. “He could have said it more sharply, that he thinks Eric Holder is a liar, but it comes out the same in the wash.”

Codrea believes that the pressure felt by the administration may be the leverage needed for the Justice Department or the White House to force Melson to resign.

“I think they were hoping they could have him quietly transferred out but he saw what was going on and he has to understand which way the wind blows and he has things on higher ups and they want him to keep quiet,” Codrea commented.

“It looks like [Melson] decided that going quietly is not in his best interest. What was in his best interest is to lawyer up and to go and talk to the congressional oversight committee,” he said.

Codrea and Pratt believe that the issue is going to get bigger as more details become public. Pratt believes that if Issa’s committee continues its work, the entire scenario may rise to the level of Watergate.

“Just like Watergate became the only thing the Richard Nixon administration could think about, I think ‘Fast and Furious’ is coming to the point where it’s going to be an all consuming issue,” Pratt said.

“It’s going to take the Obama regime off their stride and they’re going to have to be playing defense.”
