George Jefferson “Sherman Hemsley” dies at 74
Sherman Hemsley, star of “The Jeffersons,” died July 24 at his home in El Paso, Texas, according to TMZ; he was 74 years old. Hemsley debuted his iconic character George Jefferson on the hit “All in the Family,” then landed a spinoff, “The Jeffersons,” which ran for 11 seasons. Hemsley went on to star as Deacon Frye on NBC’s 1986-91 sitcom “Amen,” guest starred on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” and appeared in TV ads for Denny’s and Old Navy.

An actor from the days when TV was still fun, you could actually watch MOST of the shows with your kids, and everyone could sing the show themes.
Seriously, who doesn’t know the majority of ‘The Jeffersons’ theme song? Although admittedly, I always had trouble with the “Took a whole lotta tr-y-in” part —
Had NO idea what she was saying there for years.
