Gore: Global warming skeptics are this generation’s racists

One day climate change skeptics will be seen in the same negative light as racists, or so says former Vice President Al Gore.

In an interview with former advertising executive and Climate Reality Project collaborator Alex Bogusky broadcasted on UStream on Friday, Gore explained that in order for climate change alarmists to succeed, they must “win the conversation” against those who deny there is a crisis.

“I remember, again going back to my early years in the South, when the Civil Rights revolution was unfolding, there were two things that really made an impression on me,” Gore said. “My generation watched Bull Connor turning the hose on civil rights demonstrators and we went, ‘Whoa! How gross and evil is that?’ My generation asked old people, ‘Explain to me again why it is okay to discriminate against people because their skin color is different?’ And when they couldn’t really answer that question with integrity, the change really started.”

The former vice president recalled how society succeeded in marginalizing racists and said climate change skeptics must be defeated in the same manner.

“Secondly, back to this phrase ‘win the conversation,’” he continued. “There came a time when friends or people you work with or people you were in clubs with — you’re much younger than me so you didn’t have to go through this personally — but there came a time when racist comments would come up in the course of the conversation and in years past they were just natural. Then there came a time when people would say, ‘Hey, man why do you talk that way, I mean that is wrong. I don’t go for that so don’t talk that way around me. I just don’t believe that.’ That happened in millions of conversations and slowly the conversation was won.”

“We have to win the conversation on climate,” Gore added.

When Bogusky questioned the analogy, asking if the scientific reasoning behind climate change skeptics might throw a wrench into the good and evil comparison with racism, Gore did not back down.

“I think it’s the same where the moral component is concerned and where the facts are concerned I think it is important to get that out there, absolutely,” Gore said.

Gore also took shots at Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who has lambasted climate change alarmists on the presidential campaign trail, and at other politicians who dare to question the veracity of global warming science.

“This is an organized effort to attack the reputation of the scientific community as a whole, to attack their integrity, and to slander them with the lie that they are making up the science in order to make money,” Gore said.

Reporter Gives Update Covered In Sea Foam

MYFOXNY.COM – A local news reporter from Washington, D.C. ended up getting covered in what is probably the remnants of raw sewage as he delivered live hurricane reports from Ocean City, Md.

WTTG-TV reporter Tucker Barnes was providing live updates for stations around the country as a wall of what he described as sea foam poured over him.

Barnes was on the boardwalk as Hurricane Irene hit the coast of Maryland

He noted that he had immersed himself in organic material.  That “organic material” was most likely the effects of raw sewage pouring into the water during the storm.

“It doesn’t taste great,” he said.

He said it had a sandy consistency and added, “I can tell you first-hand, it doesn’t smell great.”

The foam is often a toxic mix of pollution and cyanobacteria.

60 mph wind gust sprayed the toxic mix across the reporter and the boardwalk and coated buildings.

Bubbles and foam in the ocean can be caused by several other things, including oils from decomposing animals.

Paul: Bernanke Is Out of Options to Save Economy

Published August 28, 2011

| FoxNews.com

Chairman Ben Bernanke is not calling for another fix to the economy by the Federal Reserve because he’s already used up all the quivers in the Fed’s bow, Rep. Ron Paul said Sunday.

Paul is a 2012 Republican presidential candidate and supports the U.S. returning to the gold standard to protect its currency and force a balanced budget. He has been highly critical of the Federal Reserve and its chairman over plans for “quantitative easing,” a two-part program which flooded the market with dollars in an attempt to make money more available for borrowing and lending.

Paul argued that Bernanke’s plan to buy bank assets and drop more than $2 trillion into the economy did not yield the results the chairman hoped, a conclusion that Paul says Bernanke implicitly acknowledged during a speech last week in which he offered no new bailout programs from the Fed.

“He really hasn’t pulled back. Symbolically, he has and he is not having another QE3,” Paul said. “But he has maintained a (view) to keep interest rates low until 2013. You can’t keep interest rates low without monetizing debt because if somebody else doesn’t buy it, he has to buy it. So he’s continuously quantitatively easing.”

Paul said that artificially holding down interest rates was instrumental in the housing bubble that burst in 2007 and sparked the economic meltdown from which the U.S. economy is still trying to recover.

He said if government — and its central bank — stopped trying to bail out its friends, then the economy would soon return to normal.

“Let the people who live beyond their means, let them go bankrupt,” he said. “Hands off, give us a sound currency, free up the markets. Property rights. Enforce contracts. Make sure people go bankrupt when they go bankrupt and don’t bail out their buddies.”

He added that one good thing out of Bernanke’s speech is that he effectively returned the responsibility for the economy back to Congress and a fiscal approach.

“He at least sort of said, ‘Oh, it’s up to the Congress. It’s all Congress’ fault. They need to deal with it. So he’s sort of throwing up his hands. But all he needs to do is quit monetizing debt. Interest rates would go up and Congress would be forced to cut debt,” Paul said.

Paul has been holding steady near the top of the polls for the Republican nomination despite being described as “unconventional” because of his libertarian streak. The 12-term Texas congressman surmised that he’s in vogue now because many Americans realize it’s time to return to the principles on which the nation was founded.

“I’m fascinated with your word ‘unconventional,'” he told “Fox News Sunday. “Isn’t it strange that we can apply that word to freedom and liberty and the Constitution and limited government and a balanced budget?’

Paul said that while some question whether he’s just in the race to be the “prophet” who guides the discussion, he’s definitely vying for the actual job of president.

“I’m in it to win it. And you’re absolutely right, I do say that I am more interested in influence and power. As a matter of fact, as president I would reduce the power of government. I wouldn’t seek it. I would never take the power from the Congress. I would not go to war without
congressional approval,” he said.

“I resent the power that has galvanized in the executive branch and in the judicial system and I would want to shrink the size of government,” he added. “That doesn’t mean I don’t want to win. That means I want a new approach at least from current standards for the presidency.”

Paul’s approach to foreign policy has also been called unconventional, or in some circles, isolationist. He has opposed most wars launched by the U.S., saying that it leads to too many unintended consequences, and has harshly criticized U.S. participation in NATO military action against Libya.

Paul said that his approach to international relations rests on national security, not “pretending that we can pick the dictators around the world.”

He added that the U.S. government should take cues from its military.

“The one telltale sign of the support I’m getting is because of my foreign policy. I get more donations from active military duty people than all the other candidates put together, which tells me a lot and tells the American people a lot,” Paul said.

“Military people wanted to defend this country but they don’t want perpetual war when they are
undeclared and you don’t see the end and you don’t know who the enemy is and it’s too many
restrictions on how they retaliate against the enemies … Our (National) Guard units should be here taking care of us when we have floods, but no, they’re overseas and the military is worn out, it’s time for a change if for no reason than we’re flat out broke,” he said.

Skinny Jeans Ban: School District Backs Off Proposal To Prohibit Tight Pants

First Posted: 8/26/11 09:14 AM ET Updated: 8/26/11 11:35 AM ET

CATASAUQUA, Pa. (AP) – Students in a Pennsylvania school district have gotten approval to remain fashion forward.

The Morning Call of Allentown reports that Catasauqua (cat-uh-SOCK’-wuh) Area School District approved a revised dress code this week. It allows students to wear so-called skinny jeans.

The tight-fitting jeans had been banned under an earlier dress code. But parents complained they were having a hard time finding jeans that wouldn’t be banned under the district’s definition.

Board member Patricia Snyder tells The Morning Call the district was trying to prevent students from wearing suggestive clothing. But ultimately the district determined jeans could be skinny but still appropriate.

The board also gave in to requests to back off a ban on hooded sweat shirts. Low-cut tops, leggings and ripped pants are still barred.

Man Reports Own Parking Violation To Conn. Police

Michael Andes

Police arrested Michael Andes on Aug. 25 after he allegedly yelled at officers for not enforcing parking rules in Shelton, CT.

SHELTON, Conn. — Connecticut authorities say a 29-year-old man was so upset about the lack of parking enforcement in his town that he parked his car illegally in a handicapped space and called police more than a dozen times before officers arrived and arrested him.

Shelton police say they had to subdue Michael Andes with a stun gun Thursday morning after he screamed at officers that they weren’t doing their job and became combative. He was charged with breach of peace and interfering with an officer and was given a parking ticket.

Authorities say Andes first called police at 2 a.m. and yelled at a dispatcher.

Patch reported that officers made repeated attempts to calm Andes, but tasered him when he acted aggressively towards them.

Andes posted $1,000 bail and is due in court Sept. 6. There’s no phone listing for Andes and it’s not clear if he has a lawyer.

“Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony.”

Lead Prosecutor in Casey Anthony Trial to Publish Book

Published August 28, 2011

| NewsCore

ORLANDO, Fla. –  The lead prosecutor in the Casey Anthony trial will publish a book about the case in November, the Orlando Sentinel reported Sunday.

Jeff Ashton’s book will be the first published insider account of the notorious murder trial in which Casey Anthony, 25, was controversially acquitted of murdering her two-year old daughter, Caylee, on July 5. The Sentinel reported that the title of the book is “Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony.”

Ashton confirmed that he was publishing the book after rumors about the tome spread when booksellers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble on Saturday listed the upcoming sale of the book on their websites.

The prosecutor declined to comment on the content of the book to The Sentinel.

Ashton retired from his position as Assistant State Attorney in Florida days after the Casey Anthony trial ended. Ashton had worked as an Assistant State Attorney for more than three decades.

Anthony has been in hiding since her July release from jail and is currently serving a year-long probation for a check fraud conviction unrelated to her murder charges. Anthony was recently voted the most hated woman in America in a national poll.

Federal Agent vs Little Old Lady

The previous case I posted about freedom of speech  and law enforcement  https://phoebe53.wordpress.com/2011/08/27/free-speech-anyone/  made me think of this.

I was charged with FEDERAL obstruction of  justice.  DH and I were at a State Park in NC, it’s just a turnout off the mainroad with a couple of picnic tables, an outhouse and a dumpster, we stopped to take our puppy out for a walk.

While we were there we saw a Forest Ranger talking to a couple of people sitting at the picnic table, just a friendly chat, nothing serious then the Ranger went into the woods, we never spoke to him.

We got in the car to leave and noticed there was a sign on the dumpster that said “no dumping household trash” and about that time a vehicle drove in and a man took a bag of trash out of their car and walked to the dumpster.  We pointed the sign out to him and told him he probably shouldn’t throw it in the dumpster since there was a Ranger somewhere in the woods.  The guy looked kinda puzzled but turned to go back to his vehicle with the trash bag.

The Ranger came hauling ass out of the woods, screaming like a figging lunatic.  He told the guy with the trash bag not to leave and came over to us still screaming, don’t you move and I think he had his hand on his gun.

DH and I looked at each other, WTF?

We watched as the idiot Ranger wrote a citation to the guy with the trash bag.  Now mind you, this guy didn’t put it in the dumpster so why the citation, I don’t know.

Then the idiot comes back over to us, still screaming.  WTF is this guys problem?  He told us to step out of the car so we did.  He said, I’m such a nice guy…yeah right, that I’m only going to charge one of you.  I had already told DH that I would take the blame since I would fight it and he wouldn’t so when I told the guy to charge me, apparently DH, thru his silence, agreed. LOL

So the idiot proceeded to ask me questions, most of which I refused to answer. He didn’t like my “spunk” and threatened to arrest me.  The charge….Federal Obstruction of Justice.  I called it free speech, he disagreed.  I tried to argue that it can’t be “obstruction of justice” if I didn’t know what he was doing, how could I, I never spoke to him.

He had called for backup from another Ranger, mind you, this was all over a dumpster and I figure he was just pissed that he got stuck with dumpster duty.  I tried to get the other Ranger to talk some sense into him, he said he was staying out of it, unless of course it took two men to take down one  little old lady.

Meanwhile, DH is exercising his right to remain silent.  LOL

The fine for Obstruction of Justice was $300, not a huge amount but it was the principal of the thing.

I went to Federal Court and was greeted by a Federal Public Defender who was roaming the halls to find justification for his salary.  He asked me what happened, I told him in 30 words or less and he told me to plead “not guilty”, good plan, that’s what I fully intended to do.

The Public Defender spoke with the Prosecutor and “together” they tried to get the Ranger to drop the charges, he refused.  At this point it was a battle of wills and I was out to prove my will stronger than his. I asked for a jury trial.

The day before the trial the Public Defender informed me that the charges were dropped.  Double win, didn’t have to pay $300 and I beat the lunatic Ranger at his own game.

There is no longer a dumpster at the park.

Adult Kids sue Mother for bad birthday card

What spoiled little brats!

Adult children’s ‘bad mothering’ lawsuit dismissed

Chicago • Raised in a $1.5 million Barrington Hills, Ill., home by their attorney father, two grown children have spent the last two years pursuing a unique lawsuit against their mom for “bad mothering” that alleges damages caused when she failed to buy toys for one and sent another a birthday card he didn’t like.

The alleged offenses include failing to take her daughter to a car show, telling her then 7-year-old son to buckle his seat belt or she would contact police, “haggling” over the amount to spend on party dresses and calling her daughter at midnight to ask that she return home from celebrating homecoming.

Last week, at which point the court record stood about a foot tall, an Illinois appeals court dismissed the case, finding that none of the mother’s conduct was “extreme or outrageous.” To rule in favor of her children, the court found, “could potentially open the floodgates to subject family childrearing to … excessive judicial scrutiny and interference.”

In 2009, the children, represented by three attorneys including their father, Steven A. Miner, sued their mother, Kimberly Garrity. Steven II, now 23, and his sister Kathryn, now 20, sought more than $50,000 for “emotional distress.”

Miner and Garrity were married for a decade before she filed for divorce in 1995, records show.

Among the exhibits filed in the case is a birthday card Garrity sent her son, who in his lawsuit sought damages because the card was “inappropriate” and failed to include cash or a check. He also alleged she failed to send a card for years or, while he was in college, care packages.

On the front of the American Greetings card is a picture of tomatoes spread across a table that are indistinguishable except for one in the middle with craft-store googly eyes attached.

“Son I got you this Birthday card because it’s just like you … different from all the rest!” the card reads. On the inside Garrity wrote “Have a great day! Love & Hugs, Mom xoxoxo.”  (that bitch)

In court papers, Garrity’s attorney Shelley Smith says the “litany of childish complaints and ingratitude” in the lawsuit is nothing more than an attempt by Garrity’s ex-husband to “seek the ultimate revenge” of having her children accuse her of “being an inadequate mother.”

“It would be laughable that these children of privilege would sue their mother for emotional distress, if the consequences were not so deadly serious for (Garrity),” Smith wrote. “There is no insurance for this claim, so (Garrity) must pay her legal fees, while (the children) have their father for free.”

Messages left for Smith were not returned. Steven A. Miner, reached by phone, did not comment. In court papers he said he only filed the lawsuit after much legal research and had tried to dissuade his children from bringing the case.

The Cook County judge who ruled on the case, Kathy Flanagan, declined to assess sanctions against Miner, but said the lawsuit amounted to nothing more than children “suing their mother for bad mothering.”

DePaul University law professor Bruce Ottley, who co-wrote a textbook on Illinois tort law, says courts have long carved out an exception to family members suing each other, barring any extreme conduct.

“If junior slips on the rug in the living room and sues mom or dad, that can’t happen,” Ottley said.

He said such emotional distress damages are a way for the legal system to address situations — sexual harassment for instance — where there is no physical harm. But those bringing a case to court must prove the conduct was outrageous.

“The fact that it is such a high standard, it doesn’t succeed very often,” Ottley said.
